Who is KingCards Anyway?

KingCards is owned and run by one person, me, Andy Sears.

Starting about 1999, I educated myself in computer art animation. I learned about web design and all that strange software and weird stuff you need to know. It's called do it yourself, pray and as you go and hope to heaven you will get there. Well I'm still not sure if I got there. With the internet every time you learn the rules, the rules change. I will give myself an A for effort.

Humble beginnings:
I started out my career as a cartoon artist at 10 years old. My first cartoon was published in the local newspaper. I received a check for one dollar, big money for a 10 year old in 1956.

Things have changed a lot since then. A dollar doesn’t go far these days. If I was doing this for the money I would have quit long ago. We all have to express ourselves in one way or another, drawing has been my way ever since I can remember picking up my first Crayon.

Now I draw greeting cards on my Mac computer, with a digitized drawing board and pen. It is similar to drawing with pencil and paper, except I look at the computer screen to see my lines not my pencil hand.

These drawings, one for each animated frame are put together and colored all with computer software instead of paper, pencil and paint brush.

Each card is joyously hand drawn, one by one. The finished product is what you see on your computer screen. Sometimes I get an Idea and it works. Sometimes it's a flop. I never know until it's finished. Sometimes it's never finished and that's a good time to let it all go and take a walk with my dog.

Incidentally, KingCards is named after my first and best boyhood dog friend, King. So if you see a lot of cards with dogs on them you know why. There are lots of cats too. Cats are a natural, fun and expressive with big eyes bright and many colored fur.

Finally my appreciation to you, the people who are willing to spend some time with me. That connection is my greatest joy, knowing there are people out there from all over the world who get a laugh a smile a little break from it all.
